Masked thugs forced their way into a young couple’s Sheffield home in a terrifying armed raid.

A four-strong gang brandishing metal bars struck at Jedd Kerrigan’s flat moments after he arrived home from celebrating his 21st birthday. Jedd, whose 19-year-old girlfriend Bethany Jones was visiting, said the raiders threatened to harm the couple, ordered them to remain seated and, when Bethany tried to get up, shoved her back down. “Bethany was in hysterics – she was screaming,” said Jedd. “My thoughts were not to challenge them, to do what they said so it would be over quicker.

“But Bethany was terrified and really screaming.

“When she tried to get up they pushed her back down.”

Detectives have stepped up patrols in the area and carried out house-to-house inquiries following the raid on Emerson Crescent, Parson Cross.

“Thankfully no-one was injured, but the victims are understandably incredibly distressed by the incident,” Det Sgt Shaf Rehman told The Star.

Jedd said the first they realised anything was wrong was when their dog started to make a noise.

“We thought it wanted to go out, and then a few seconds later these four lads came running in with metal bars,” he said.

“They started raiding the flat – pulling out my Xbox and searching all the rooms.”

The couple are most upset about the theft of Bethany’s laptop computer, which contained thousands of photographs.

“I will be able to save up for a new Xbox, but the laptop is irreplaceable ,” he said.

“She is really upset - her life is on that computer.”

Jedd said police officers had called at his flat only the week before, warning there had been a series of robberies in the area.

“The police came knocking and told us to keep our doors locked as there had been some burglaries recently,” he said.

“We only had the door open that night because the dog is always in and out – but even if it had been locked those lads wanted in.”

Det Sgt Rehman said detectives believe the armed raid was ‘an isolated incident’.

“I am keen to hear from anyone who saw four men acting suspiciously in the area before the robbery, or anyone who saw the suspects as they fled the scene,” he said.

“The four men were armed with metal bars and baseball bats, and made threats towards the couple as they burst in and searched the flat.”

At least two of the four robbers were white and around 5ft 10ins tall, with the hoods of their tops drawn tightly round their faces.

One was slim, wearing blue tracksuit bottoms and a blue hooded top with an orange logo on the left. His face was covered with a blue and black scarf.

A second robber was of medium build, wearing light grey jogging bottoms and a light grey tracksuit top with light blue around the neck. His face was covered with a black scarf.

The two other thugs wore dark clothing.
