A HUGE police cordon around an area of grassland next to a Sheffield school has been taken down by police.
Detectives taped off the land next to Fir Vale School - between Rushby Street and Earl Marshal Road, Fir Vale - on Tuesday morning and had officers keeping guard most of the day.
They took down the tape, allowing members of the public to use the communal space again, in the evening.
South Yorkshire Police is investigating an allegation of a serious sexual assault made by a woman in her 20s on Tuesday morning.
Local business people near the grassland were visited by police officers asking if they had CCTV cameras which may have captured any suspicious behaviour.
Residents were also visited by officers carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the neighbourhood, asking if locals had seen or heard anything unusual on Monday night.
Fears over the nature of the incident were high on Tuesday when the police tape went up without any explanation, with false rumours quick to circulate of a murder and stabbing.
Call police on 101.
