Security mark kits for OAPs

elderly residents were given free property marking kits and security advice during a visit by police to a luncheon centre in the village of Hathersage.

The visit was part of an initiative to help tackle burglaries and to help keep residents safe in their homes.

Each kit, paid for by Derbyshire Dales District Council, contains SmartWater - a solution where each batch has its own unique code making it easier for police to trace the owners of stolen items.

PCSO Anthony Boswell, of the Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “It was a good opportunity for us to meet with members of the community, to make sure they all received their pack and were aware of how to stay safe.”
