Scooter thief issues apology

A TEENAGER has apologised for stealing a stunt scooter which had been left outside a shop.

The scooter was stolen after being left outside a shop on Baden Powell Road in Boythorpe.

Police had made an appeal back in October to trace the scooter - and a 17-year-old boy from Chesterfield admitted stealing the scooter, which was returned to its owner, and he wrote a formal letter of apology.

The matter was dealt with through restorative justice - a scheme used by Derbyshire Police since April 2009 to speed up the administration of justice without the need for offenders going to court.

Victims, offenders and the police reach an agreement on how minor cases should be dealt with.

Crimes are recorded as usual but dealt with in a more proportionate way.
