Safety event for motorcyclists

POLICE in South Yorkshire have organised a safety day for motorcyclists in a bid to drive down collisions on the county’s roads.

Bikers are invited to Rainbow Motorcycles in Rotherham at 10am on Saturday, March 23, where safety experts will offer advice and new products available to try, including air bag jackets.

Local racer Jonathan Howarth, from Kawasaki Team Green G&S Racing, will also be at the shop.

Del Preece, South Yorkshire safer roads partnership’s motorcycle casualty reduction officer, said: “Using a motorbike or scooter is a great way to get around, either for commuting to work or as a hobby, but with bikers featuring highly in collisions it is really important riders are able protect themselves by riding defensively and wearing the right safety gear.

“As a team we are here to help new and experienced bikers to stay safer on the roads.

“We want riders to enjoy their machines and this is a great opportunity for bikers to meet with us and Jonathan, find out about cut-price training and try out new safety gear such as the air bag jacket before getting their bike out for spring and summer.”

Lorna Thomas, of Rainbow Motorcycles, Alma Road, said: “We’re committed to giving bikers the best experience possible and safety events like this are a great way for bikers to brush up on their skills.”
