SCHOOLs, churches, GP surgeries and businesses are being warned to be on their guard against bogus callers posing as road maintenance contractors working for Derbyshire County Council.
The county council has received complaints about men claiming to be from a company employed to repaint road markings and asking for money to pay for special paint for road markings outside their properties.
Fake letters have also been produced by the rogue traders claiming the county council has given them permission to do the work.
Derbyshire County Council Deputy Leader Coun Simon Spencer, cabinet member for highways and transport, warned people to be on their guard.
He said: “We want to warn local people that we would never call door to door asking for money or ask anyone else to do so on our behalf.
“This is not genuine – it is a scam and people should not hand over any money to these conmen.”
n Anyone approached by the rogue traders should call Consumer Direct on 08454 040405 or Derbyshire Police on 101.
