Three Sheffield men are behind bars for a combined total of 13 years and eight months for robbing a woman as she walked through a city park.
Reece David Fleming, aged 22, of Spotswood Close, Gleadless Valley; Kieran Wild, 24, of Woodseats Road, Woodseats and Adam Pete Rotherforth, 26, of Brightmore Drive, Netherthorpe, were jailed after being found guilty of robbery following a trial.
Jurors at Sheffield Crown Court heard that they struck in Crookes Valley Park at around 6pm on Thursday, March 20 as a 23-year-old woman was walking home.
The men grabbed her and demanded her phone.
When she refused to hand it over one of the robbers bit her before she was thrown to the ground.
After rummaging through her belongings and taking her phone, the three men ran off.
Two members of the public witnessed the attack and gave chase to the trio, alerting police to the robbery.
They were apprehended near to Mushroom Lane moments later.
Detective Constable Rob Sommerville said: “This was a premeditated, nasty attack that caused the victim a great deal of distress and fear.
“The brutality of this robbery could have resulted in much graver injuries and it is a relief that the student sustained only minor bruising.
“We are grateful to the university for their support with CCTV enquiries, as well as the two members of the public who gave chase to the suspects.”
Fleming was jailed for five years and Wild and Rotherforth were each jailed for four years and four months.
