A man has been remanded in custody by magistrates over an assault which left another man fighting for life.

David Sindall, aged 33, of Selborne Street, Eastwood, Rotherham, appeared before Barnsley magistrates on Saturday over an incident the weekend before.

Police were called to Skiers View Road, Hoyland, Barnsley, in the early hours of Sunday, July 21 after a 49-year-old man suffered serious head injuries when he confronted another man believed to have been attempting to steal his car.

The victim was rushed to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, with life threatening injuries.

He remains there in a critical but stable condition.

Sindall was arrested and later charged with burglary and causing grievous bodily harm.

He is due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday, August 8.

Police cordoned off the crime scene and carried out door-to-door inquiries following the attack.

In the immediate aftermath, a South Yorkshire Police spokesman said the attacker was an ‘unknown male.’

“It is thought that the unknown male may have been attempting to break into the 49-year-old man’s car,” he added.
