Purses stolen from OAPs

TWO pensioners in a Barnsley suburb had their purses stolen by men who called at their homes asking for work.

Police are hunting the thieves, who struck on Tuesday and Wednesday.

At 12.30pm on Tuesday a short, slim, dark haired Irish man in his 30s approached a 76-year-old woman in her garden asking if she had any scrap for collection. She later discovered her purse containing £10, has been stolen. Her bank cards were taken and used to withdraw £350.

At 11.30am the next day a man offering to fix a tile on the roof of a pensioner’s home on Highstone Road, Worsbrough Common, Barnsley. He was white, around 25 years old, 5ft 4ins tall, slim and had a local accent. She later discovered her purse was missing.
