POLICE are appealing for help in tracking scrap metal thieves operating in north Derbyshire.
Insp Michelle Shooter, who is in charge of policing in North East Derbyshire, said there has been an increase in metal thefts in the area.
She told Dronfield Town Council that local residents should inform police every time they spot vehicles being used for scrap metal collections.
The inspector said officers could then carry out checks to ensure the collectors are licensed to pick up scrap metal.
Coun Doug Oxspring, Mayor of Dronfield, said he had seen vehicles in the town being used for collecting scrap metal.
n Anyone with information should call Derbyshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
