Detectives want to trace a man who attacked and verbally abused a member of staff working at Sheffield train station.

The thug struck as a 50-year-old woman was working on the main concourse on Friday, April 17.

CCTV footage is being examined in a bid to identify the culprit.

PC Fiona Poyner, of British Transport Police, said: “At approximately 1pm, a member of station staff was carrying out her duties on the main concourse when a man approached her and physically assaulted her. This was followed by verbal abuse.

“The staff member was able to take refuge in a station office, but the man went onto verbally abuse other members of staff on the station platforms.

“No member of staff working on the railway deserves to be verbally or physically abused. They work hard to ensure the smooth running of the railway and have the right to work in a safe and secure environment.

“I am keen to hear from anyone who was at Sheffield station on Friday lunchtime and witnessed this incident. If you were there, please contact British Transport Police as soon as possible.”
