POLICE in Sheffield are asking residents to be alert to people acting suspiciously on their streets following a spate of break-ins.

South Yorkshire Police has seen a rise in burglaries in Sheffield over recent months, and is actively seeking three suspects who have been identified by forensic evidence.

Inspector Ian Stubbs, who covers Woodseats and Gleadless Valley, said: “We are currently actively seeking three known offenders – one has been chased by police three times since Friday. We will catch him, hopefully sooner rather than later.

“I would urge everyone to be extra vigilant and, if you see individuals acting suspiciously in your street, phone 999. We would rather a number of false alarms than miss an opportunity.

“Also, please be extra vigilant and make sure your property is secure, keys are not left in doors, and valuables are not on display to anyone looking through the window.”

He said five arrests over the weekend and the recovery of stolen property from a burglary were a result of the Apple ‘Find My Phone’ app which tracked one stolen iPad to Chesterfield. Insp Stubbs said: “If you own Apple products please ensure this application is activated – it works.”
