Detectives investigating the theft of a wallet from a train at Sheffield station have released a picture of a man they want to trace.

A Barnsley man left his wallet, which contained £15, an Oyster card and his train ticket, on his seat as he got up to leave the train.

When he realised a short time later it had gone.

PC Mark Mason, of British Transport Police, said: “As the train arrived into Sheffield from Barnsley, the victim left his seat and walked to the front of the train inadvertently leaving his wallet, containing £15, an Oyster card, and his rail ticket, on the seat.

“A man then walked past the seat, stopped, returned to it and placed something in his bag.

“Once the victim realised he had left his wallet behind he returned to his seat to find it had gone.”

Officers believe the man in the CCTV image could have vital information about the incident.
