Detectives investigating an allegation of assault in Sheffield city centre have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to trace.

Officers have launched a probe after a 22-year-old woman reported being assaulted by a man she had met on a night out in Sheffield city centre.

Police said the woman had been drinking in a bar on Carver Street when she met the man, got into a taxi with him, and travelled to Matilda Street.

They are then said to have got out of the cab and walked on to Matilda Way and towards the entrance to the NCP car park.

The man and woman then left in a taxi from Eyre Street.

Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed their movements that night, Friday, April 19.

The man they want to trace was light skinned, between 5ft 11ins and 6ft, and well built.

He had short, cropped, dark hair, stubble on his face, and was wearing a light grey short-sleeved polo shirt with red piping around the collar and the bottom of the sleeves.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police have released CCTV of a man they would like to speak to in connection with an alleged assault in Sheffield.

“If anyone witnessed the alleged incident, or has information to help officers investigate, they are urged to contact police.”
