POLICE are investigating a spate of handbag thefts in Sheffield city centre nightspots.
South Yorkshire Police said last weekend they received a number of reports of women having their handbags stolen while they were on nights out.
The bags were stolen from dancefloors or when they had been left while the women were dancing.
A police spokesman said: “Over the weekend we had a number of preventable thefts of mainly ladies’ handbags in licensed premises in the city centre as a result of victims placing them on the bar, dancefloor or other places while buying alcohol or dancing.”
She warned: “Please be aware thieves will seize any opportunity to ruin your night out if you are careless.”
