POLICE patrols are set to be carried out along the Monsal Trail in the Peak District now that a number of tunnels have been opened up or repaired to link up even more villages.
Officers hope their cycle patrols will provide reassurance to users of the route following the path of the former Midland Railway.
They will be reminding people about the safe and legal use of the trail, from which cars and motorbikes are banned.
PC Kevin Lowe, of Tideswell and Area Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “It is illegal for any motor vehicle or motorbike to use the trail, with the exception of Peak District National Park Rangers and authorised maintenance vehicles.
“Safety for walkers, horse riders and cyclists could be put at risk, especially through the tunnels or on narrower parts of the route.
“We will take action against vehicles that are found on the route.”
