Police patrols to
cut burglaries

EXTRA police patrols will be carried out in Rotherham in a bid to reduce burglaries and vehicle crime in March – when offences traditionally increase.

Detective Inspector John Hobson said: “Most of the crime committed is as a result of opportunistic thieves finding houses or cars insecure.

“With the lighter evenings coming along and, dare I say it, the potential for warmer weather, shed burglaries become more popular with the latest pride-and-joy rotary mower being taken before you have even had the chance to tidy up that wintery lawn.

“If you don’t keep your doors, windows and vehicles locked and secure then you run the very high risk of becoming a victim of crime.

“Under these circumstances you may find that you are not insured, which will only add to the distress. Keep it locked and keep it safe.”

Officers will be offering crime prevention advice during their patrols.
