South Yorkshire Police is backing a new anti-drink driving campaign, with figures showing that 1,160 motorists were convicted for drink or drug driving in the county in one year.
This week the government has launched a new advert reminding drivers of the dangers of drink driving - 50 years after the first national drink drive information film.
Latest figures show 1,160 drivers were convicted of drink or drug driving in 2012.
Roads Policing Inspector Peter Serhatlic said: “It is encouraging to see that the vast majority of people understand and believe that it is wholly unacceptable to get behind the wheel and drive after drinking alcohol.
“Too many lives are still lost because of the actions of a few.”
