Detectives investigating a drive-by shooting believe a car found abandoned close to the crime scene could be linked to the offence.
A 27-year-old man was shot in his leg on Chadwick Road, Woodhouse, Sheffield, in the early hours of Saturday.
He was taken to the Northern General Hospital, where he remains today in a stable condition.
Five minutes following the shooting a black Ford Focus was found burnt-out on Smallage Lane, Woodhouse Mill, which police believe may be linked to the shooting.
Detective Inspector Martin Tate said: “The victim had spent part of the night with friends at the Embassy Club, in Mansfield Road, and was walking from the venue when he was injured.
“The shots were fired from a passing car, understood to contain at least two suspects, and we believe the vehicle found nearby could have been used in the incident.
“Forensic examinations have been carried out at both scenes, increased patrols are being conducted in the area and the investigation remains ongoing.
“However, we still want to hear from anyone with information.
“Did you see a dark coloured vehicle in and around the Manor Top area before or after the incident?
“No matter how insignificant you think the information is, contact us immediately as it could prove vital to our investigation.”
Witnesses or anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 140 of September 14.
