Police are helping motorists put the brake on number plate thefts.
Officers are offering drivers the chance to pick up anti-theft screws for their vehicles for free at an event at the Co-Op car park in North Wingfield.
The screws are special ‘one way’ devices which replace the standard screws and are fitted to number plates to prevent them from being removed.
Sergeant Les Rawson, of the local Safer Neighbourhood policing team, said: “While we don’t have a high number of this type of theft, we’re offering these simple devices to help local residents reduce the risk of number plates being taken by offenders who may switch them onto another vehicle and potentially use them to commit other crimes.”
The event will take place between 10am and 3pm on Monday, August 18.
