Police in Derbyshire issue warning over telephone scam

Police are warning about a scam where fraudsters con people into handing over their bank account and debit card details.

Residents across Derbyshire have received telephone calls from people claiming to work for their banks and telling victims there has been fraudulent activity detected.

They ask victims for their PINs and tell them a courier will collect their debit cards.

Either a genuine courier firm, or a taxi firm employed by the scammers, then calls for the cards and victims later discover that money has been withdrawn from their accounts.

Derbyshire Police have referred the crimes to the National Fraud Agency for investigation.

Officers are urging people to keep their PINs a secret and reminding that banks will never ask for PIN details.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
