DETECTIVES are ‘actively seeking’ a fifth suspect in connection with the shooting of a Sheffield man on London Road.
Police made the announcement the day after they bailed four other suspects pending further inquiries.
Police arrested a 26-year-old Sheffield man on Wednesday and three others, aged 23, 27 and 28, on Thursday.
The arrests followed an attack on a 45-year-old man, from the Manor, in the early hours of January 1.
Police were alerted to the shooting, close to the junction of Hill Street, when the victim turned up at Sheffield Children’s Hospital seeking treatment. He had a gunshot wound to his shoulder but his spinal chord was severed in the attack – paralysing him from the chest down.
A police spokesman said: “Additional patrols continue in the London Road area while detectives actively seek a fifth man in connection with the incident.”
Police believe the shooting was targeted and ‘connected to a dispute earlier that night’.
Officers were also alerted to another shooting in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Officers were called to Halfway Gardens at around 3.05am after an 18-year-old was shot in the abdomen on grassland near to a house where he had been to a party.
Three men charged with the incident have been remanded in custody after appearing at Sheffield Crown Court.
Micha Thompson, 24, of Westfield Southway, Westfield, Raymond Swindells, 29, of Shortbrook Drive, Westfield, and Stuart Hurst, 27, of Algar Drive, Arbourthorne, are charged with possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
Swindells is also charged with possessing an offensive weapon and affray and Hurst is accused of possessing a firearm while prohibited and affray.
