Police hunt rapist over attack in Sheffield city centre

Police patrols have been stepped up after a woman was raped in Sheffield city centre.

A 24-year-old woman contacted police to report a sex attack at 1am on Sunday, November 8.

She is being supported by specialist officers and trying to help establish the exact spot where the rape occurred.

The woman was helped into a taxi by a man in Barkers Pool shortly after the attack at around 2am.

Her attacker was an Asian man, in his 40s, short, of a large build with short/shaved hair, a large nose and a round face.

He was wearing black trousers, a black hooded zip up jacket and a white T-shirt.

Detective Constable Benjamin Wood, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “There may have been a number of people returning home from a night out at the time of the incident, if they have seen anything that may be linked to this incident I urge them to contact police.

“We are also keen to trace a man who helped the woman get into a taxi at the Barkers Pool taxi rank shortly before 2am. He is described as a white man with a bald head and aged in his 40s.

“The victim is currently being supported by specialist officers and I would like to reassure people that we are treating this incident as a priority. We have increased patrols in the area and will be reviewing CCTV footage.”
