An e-fit has been created of a man police want to trace over the attempted robbery of a woman on a South Yorkshire street.

A 20-year-old woman was walking alone in a subway between George Street and Thames Street in Rotherham when a man attempted to grab her handbag.

She told police there was a struggle between the pair, during which she was punched and had her hair pulled by the offender, who eventually ran off empty-handed.

He was white, aged in his late 20s, and of eastern European origin.

His victim said he was also around 6ft tall, had stubble and dark hair and was wearing a black hooded top, grey jogging bottoms and white trainers.

Witnesses to the incident at 8.20pm on Thursday, September 12, or anyone who recognises the culprit should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 1,122 of September 12.
