Detectives have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to trace over an armed robbery at a supermarket in Sheffield.

A gunman struck at Sainsbury’s Local on Machon Bank Road, Nether Edge, at 9.55pm last night.

Police said he threatened staff with a firearm and escaped with a quantity of cash.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “A man entered the store and threatened staff with what is believed to be a firearm to hand over cash.

“The man fled the scene on foot with a quantity of cash. There were no injuries sustained by anyone during the incident.

“Officers would ask anyone who believes they may know the identity of the man in the image to please contact police, as he may hold vital information to assist with the investigation.”

A Sainsbury’s spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the incident at our Nether Edge Local and we are helping the police with their investigation.”
