THIEVES hoping to cash in on the value of scrap metal have been stealing garden gates in Chesterfield.
The latest theft was reported last Friday, when a 6ft gate was stolen from a house on Newbold Road. Last Thursday a gate was taken from a council property on Kendal Road. Three men were seen loading it into a grey Land Rover.
And on May 3 iron gates were stolen from a garden on Dunston Lane.
Police are working with council officials and scrap dealers to identify the culprits and make it more difficult for them to sell stolen items on.
Searches of suspect vehicles are also being carried out.
