POLICE chiefs in South Yorkshire have merged their human resources and training department with the force in Humberside to save up to £2.5 million a year.

Both forces need to shave their costs in the wake of Government funding cuts, with South Yorkshire needing to find savings of £41 million over the next three years.

“The forces already have a shared IT department.

Charles Perryman, chairman of South Yorkshire Police Authority, said: “The collaboration is in line with the commitment to protect and better support frontline services.”
