A motorist trying to evade South Yorkshire Police after a chase through Doncaster drove the wrong way down a dual carriageway.

Officers wanted the driver of a Land Rover Freelander, which was towing a caravan through Edlington, to stop, but the 4x4 continued.

A police pursuit was mounted during which the Freelander collided with a vehicle and ended up losing the caravan it was towing.

The chase took officers to the A1 at Marr, where the Freelander was then driven at 90mph northbound on the southbound carriageway.

Police officers involved in the pursuit described the move as ‘unbelievable’.

When the driver was eventually stopped officers discovered that the offender was wanted on two other matters.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “There are lots of questions to answer.”
