Detectives investigating a robbery at a newsagents in Sheffield have released this CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the crime.

Shop assistant Elizabeth Hughes was threatened with a knife by a masked intruder, and forced to open the till, during the raid at Birley Moor News, on Birley Moor Road, at about 3pm on Saturday, September 7.

The suspect stole around £600 in cash and coins before running off in the direction of East Glade Place.

He took the till drawer with him but it was later recovered.

Elizabeth, aged 52, was not physically injured but was left shaken by the ordeal and had to be taken to hospital.

Shop owner Kassim Ahmed said afterwards that the robbery had been a ‘real shock to our systems’ and that customers had rallied around to offer words of comfort and support.

A police spokesman said yesterday: “Officers want to speak to the man pictured in the CCTV as they believe he could have information that would assist their inquiries.”

Anyone who recognises the man, or who has information about the incident, should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 726 of September 7.
