Railway police have released an image of a man they believe may be able to help them with enquiries into the theft of a bag from a train travelling between Leeds and Doncaster.

A 52-year-old woman boarded the 12.05pm service to London King’s Cross at Leeds on Saturday, September 7.

She placed her suitcase – which had a carrier bag on top containing her purse, with £40 in cash and a number of cash cards in it, two sets of house keys, a scarf and a number of letters from her son – in the luggage rack in the vestibule end.

PC Stephen Duck, the investigating officer, said: “When the train arrived at Grantham and she got up to leave, she discovered the carrier bag had disappeared. We believe the man pictured, who left the train at Doncaster, may be able to help with our enquiries into this crime.

“If you are the man pictured, or if you recognise him please get in touch.”
