A pickpocket thought to be aged about six is being hunted by police after he stole a purse from a shopper in Rotherham.
The modern-day Artful Dodger was captured on CCTV stealing the purse from 32-year-old Caroline Robinson as she was queuing at a till in Poundland.
Mrs Robinson, from Thorpe Hesley, was with her two young children when a man bumped into her. At the same time the young boy plucked her purse from her bag, which had been hanging from her daughter’s pushchair.
The scam was picked up by in-store cameras and police have released images of the man and boy believed to have been involved.
Cameras initially caught the boy making a grab for the purse as Mrs Robinson was looking at items in the entertainment aisle, but he missed it.
Mrs Robinson’s purse was found 12 miles away in Doncaster, with money and a photograph missing.
She said: “The boy must have been only about six or seven. He went behind me and took the purse from my handbag which was hung on my daughter’s pram.
“It would be bad enough if it was an adult, but you just wouldn’t expect that of a child.
“They’re preying on the vulnerable, like people with prams. I was a sitting duck.”
The schoolboy thief was wearing a flat cap, scarf and long coat.
