A TIP-off led to an OAP being caught drink-driving on his way home from his local pub, a court heard.
Police stopped Bernard Bunting in Carrwood Road, Renishaw, on August 18 - and when officers spoke to him he admitted he was bound to be over the limit.
Chesterfield magistrates were told he said: “I will be over the limit. I’ve had three half-pints and two whiskies and I’ve had nothing to eat all day.”
The court heard he was almost double the drink drive limit after calling in at Renishaw Miners’ Welfare.
Julie Page, representing 68-year-old Bunting, of Reynard Crescent, said: “To say this offence was out of character is an understatement. He made a gross error of judgement and he bitterly regrets it.
“One drink turned into four or five and he didn’t think about whether he had had too much to drink.”
Bunting admitted drink-driving and was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £203.
