Police in Chesterfield have issued a warning to motorists that they will be fined £30 if they continue to park on access-only roads near the town centre.
Officers are urging drivers to stop using Alexandra Road West and Spring Bank Road, which are for residents only but are often used by motorists wanting to avoid town centre parking charges.
Residents and a town councillor are taking note of the registration plates of non-residents who repeatedly park there and passing them to Derbyshire Police.
Sergeant Nick Booth, who is in charge of the Chesterfield Town Centre Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “At the moment we are advising the motorists who are contravening the signs that they are committing a moving traffic offence.
“If our advice is not heeded and people continue to use the road then we will be taking further action against the offences.
“I would like to reassure residents that all the agencies are working together to reduce the traffic problems and hopefully our current action will take effect.”
