A free safety event is being organised for the over-60s in Barnsley.
South Yorkshire’s police and fire services, along with partner agencies including Yorkshire Housing, are running the event at the Lifewise Centre, in Hellaby, Rotherham, on Friday, between 10am and 2.30pm.
It is aimed at helping prepare them for difficult situations they may encounter, including rogue traders.
The Lifewise Centre is a purpose-built set, featuring a street, park and houses where scenarios can be acted out to help educate visitors and offer crime prevention and safety advice.
Project officer Andy Foster, from South Yorkshire Police, said: “The aim of the Get Lifewise initiative is to raise awareness of safety issues as well as being an enjoyable event.
“It is a great opportunity to talk to our partners who are on hand to offer advice on matters such as home and fire safety, health and wellbeing as well as how to deal with doorstep callers and rogue traders.”
n Anyone interested in attending should call the Lifewise Centre on 01709 832455. Transport can be arranged.
