A WOMAN was treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in the stairwell outside her flat.

Firefighters called to the blaze on Myrtle Road, Heeley, Sheffield, at 8.45pm on Monday, said it was started deliberately.

Lorry catches fire

A LORRY caught fire on Chesterton Road, Eastwood, Rotherham, after developing a fault.

Firefighters were called out to the blaze at 10pm on Monday.

Arrest over drugs

POLICE arrested a man after 24 cannabis plants were discovered in a house on Beckett Crescent, Lowedges, Sheffield, on Monday.

An investigation is under way.

House break-in

POLICE are investigating after a house on Norton Mews, Norton, Sheffield, was broken into overnight between Wednesday and Thursday last week.

The burglar forced a door open.

Property targeted

AN attempt to break into a house on Glen View Road, Greenhill, Sheffield, failed when the offender was unable to remove a pane of glass they had tried to take out.

The would-be burglar struck in the early hours of last Wednesday.

HUNDREDS of trade unionists from Sheffield are heading to London for a national demonstration against austerity measures.

Sheffield Trades Union Council has booked coaches for 250 people to travel down to the event on Saturday, October 20.
