A MAN arrested after a four-hour siege at a house in Barnsley has been charged by police. The 30-year-old will answer charges of two counts of assault and two counts of harassment over the incident on Bronte Close, Monk Bretton, on Tuesday afternoon.

Police closed off the road for the duration of the incident while negotiators were brought in.

Driver injured

A MOTORIST was taken to hospital for a check-up after his car overturned following a collision with a lorry in Sheffield. He was driving along Ridgeway Road, Intake, when he was involved in the smash. Police said his car struck a kerb and landed on its side.

House blaze

A WOMAN was taken to hospital after breathing in smoke during a fire in a house on Nursery Road, Dinnington. The blaze, which was contained to the lounge, is believed to have been sparked by an electrical fault.

Vehicles alight

A CAR and a camper van were dumped at the end of a country lane in Cudworth, Barnsley, and set alight. Firefighters dealt with the blaze on Sidcup Road at 1.40am yesterday.
