NEWS IN BRIEF: Police probe raids on garden sheds

POLICE are investigating shed break-ins on Rushdale Road, Meersbrook, with two targeted last weekend.

Another was broken into on School Lane, Grenoside, between Tuesday and Friday last week and there was a shed break-in on Norton Park View between Friday and Sunday. A garage on Blackstock Crescent, Gleadless Valley, Sheffield, was broken into overnight on Saturday.

Town road closed

WESTWAY in Barnsley is to be closed for two nights this month for resurfacing work. The south-east bound carriageway will be closed from the Town End roundabout to Wellington Street between 7pm and 5am from May 10 to 12. It will be open as normal at all other times.

Drugs recovered

POLICE found 338 cannabis plants after raiding a house and discovering a hidden drugs farm. Officers smashed their way into the property on Padley Way, North Wingfield, Derbyshire, and arrested a 22-year-old man last Tuesday. He has been charged with the production of cannabis.

Vehicle stolen

A CAR parked on a driveway on Strelley Avenue, Meadowhead, Sheffield, was stolen after the house it was parked outside was broken into for the keys. Police said the offender forced the lock to gain entry to the house overnight on Thursday into Friday.

Substation attack

AN investigation is under way after an electricity substation on Mawfa Avenue, Hemsworth, Sheffield, was broken into overnight on Thursday into Friday. Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.

Shop safety fear

FIREFIGHTERS were called to Matalan, off Sheffield Parkway, when a light fitting started smouldering. Crews isolated the electrics and used a dry powder extinguisher on the fitting at 6.45pm on Monday.
