NEWS IN BRIEF: Police investigate house break-ins

A HOME on Rupert Road, Nether Edge, Sheffield, was broken into when a window was forced. A house on Blackstock Road, Gleadless Valley, was also raided last week when a window was left open.

Police are investigating a burglary at a house on Northfield Road, Crookes, Sheffield, where electrical items and jewellery were stolen at 5.30pm on Tuesday. Call South Yorkshire Police on 101.

Chip-pan blaze

FIRE crews from Mansfield Road, Sheffield, were called to a chip-pan blaze in Alport Grove, Frecheville, at 10.35pm on Tuesday. A paper recycling bin in Stanwell Avenue, Wincobank, was set on fire at 11.40pm on Tuesday, and the same night a big pile of domestic rubbish was set on fire in Charles Street, Grimethorpe, Barnsley.

Fouling penalty

FAILING to clean up after her dog landed a woman with a £50 fine and £180 bill for prosecution costs. Sandra Curry, 51, of Staveley, Chesterfield, was spotted letting her dog foul grass on Devonshire Close, Staveley. She was issued with a fixed penalty notice but failed to pay.
