AN air ambulance took a man with ‘serious injuries’ to hospital after a road smash in Sheffield last night.
The crash between a lorry and a car, on the A57 Rivelin Valley Road, at its junction with Rails Road, happened at 5.45pm.
Fire crews attended and Yorkshire Air Ambulance took the man to Sheffield Northeren General Hospital.
MP calls for web porn regulations
NEW regulations are needed to ensure internet service providers stop schoolchildren accessing online porn, a South Yorkshire MP has urged. Denis MacShane, who represents Rotherham, made the plea at a House of Commons Inquiry into Online Child Protection. “It is worrying to think most of our children are just a few clicks away from porn and violent material,” he said.
Drivers’ text peril
MOTORISTS are being urged to switch off their mobile phones before getting behind the wheel after research found nearly half of all young drivers questioned admitted to using their mobiles while driving. Road safety charity Brake found 44 per cent of young drivers admit to texting at the wheel.
FIREFIGHTERS who were alerted to smoke drifting from a house in Sheffield found a man in the cellar burning paper on a barbecue. The 21-year-old was led to safety from the property on Hunter House Road, Hunters Bar, at 8.35pm on Thursday. Police were alerted to the incident.
A ROAD in Sheffield was blocked yesterday when a lorry hit a bridge on Brightside Lane, Attercliffe. The lorry got wedged underneath a disused railway bridge at around 1pm, causing traffic chaos in the area.
A PENSIONER was taken to hospital for a check-up after the car she was a passenger in was involved in a collision with a bus on London Road, Sheffield. Emergency services were alerted to the smash, involving a double decker bus and a red DAF 33, at 10.15am yesterday.
A FORD Transit van, power tools and a laptop computer have been stolen from Tech Weld, Callywhite Lane, Dronfield. They were taken between 8.30pm on Thursday and 6.30am yesterday. Anyone with information should call Derbyshire Police on 101.
ST THOMAS of Canterbury School, Chancet Wood Drive, Greenhill, was broken into when a window was forced open. The burglar was disturbed when the intruder alarm sounded. Police said the incident happened at 10.45pm on Tuesday.
