Car skids on ice

A MAN was freed from his car after his vehicle skidded on ice and veered into a ditch.

The crash happened at just after 10am yesterday on the A628 Woodhead Pass.

Firefighters were called out to help the man, but he had already been freed by the time they arrived. He escaped uninjured.

Broken bus trouble

TRAMS and traffic were disrupted when a broken-down bus blocked a Sheffield street.

The bus broke down on Church Street in the city centre at just before 10am on Saturday.

Trams from Meadowhall and Halfway were forced to terminate at the Cathedral stop until the road was cleared at 11am.

A shuttle bus was also laid on to ferry passengers from the Sheffield University stop to Malin Bridge and Middlewood.

Cooker sparks fire

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a house in Barnsley when flames broke out in the kitchen.

Two fire engines from Barnsley and Cudworth stations were called to the scene on Monsal Crescent, Athersley South, shortly before 6pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile crews also put out another cooker fire at 5.15pm on Friday evening at a house on Cobnar Road, Woodseats, Sheffield.

Car is set ablaze

A BURNING car was put out by firefighters on Raisen Hall Road, Longley, Sheffield.

The vehicle caught fire at 6.25pm on Friday, and two crews from Elm Lane station extinguished the flames.

Arrests over theft

POLICE were called to Busk Meadows, Shirecliffe, Sheffield, to a report of a burglary in progress.

They found sledgehammers had been used to smash a hole in a garage wall to remove mountain bikes.

A man and woman were attested during the incident last Wednesday.

Fraud charges

TWO men have been charged with fraudulent trading in relation to a Barlborough-based property investment company that went into administration in November 2008.

The duo, aged 53 and 68, were company directors. More than 90 private investors are alleged to have lost a total of over £7m.
