A murder suspect was caught bare-chested sauntering in the sunshine – just yards from a giant screen advertising a £10,000 reward.
Detectives are today questioning John Heald on suspicion of murder, and in connection with a serious sexual assault carried out in Sheffield.
The 53-year-old was spotted at Parkgate Retail Park at 2.15pm yesterday – just three hours after police placed a giant 20ft screen on the middle of a roundabout at the entrance to the shopping area publicising their manhunt. Heald was arrested near Optical Express, one week to the day that B&B landlady Bei Carter was stabbed to death in Bridlington. He was found on the same day a reward for information leading to his arrest was doubled to £10,000.
The cash was put up by Crimestoppers and South Yorkshire Police, and by South Yorkshire Police Crime Commissioner Shaun Wright.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman confirmed last night: “Police officers investigating the murder of Bei Carter at a guest house in Bridlington on Friday, July 18, have made an arrest.”
