A MURDER investigation is underway after a man died following brawl in a Rotherham pub.

The 45-year-old, from Dinnington, who has not yet been named, was injured in the fight at the Don Jon Hotel in Maltby at around 10pm on Sunday.

He was rushed to Rotherham District General Hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.

A 35-year-old Maltby man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police officers investigating the incident want to hear from anyone in the Don Jon or other Maltby pubs on Sunday night.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “It is believed a number of people were involved in a fight in which the victim sustained a serious head injury, he was taken to Rotherham District General Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

“Officers investigating the incident are appealing for anyone who was in the Don Jon pub or nearby pubs on Sunday evening, or anyone with information that may assist, to call South Yorkshire Police.”
