A man police were trying to identify as part of a probe into a serious sex attack in Barnsley town centre has come forward and is being quizzed by police today.

Detectives issued a CCTV image of a man they wanted to speak to over the incident in a disused car park of Eldon Street.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “The man detectives were trying to identify as part of their investigation into a reported serious sexual assault in Barnsley has now made contact with officers.

“He attended voluntarily at a police station and is assisting police with the investigation.”
