Man threatened with metal pipe in attempted robbery

A man was chased down the street and threatened with a metal pipe during an attempted robbery last night.

The robbery took place between 10pm and 10.30pm on Hartley Street, Mexborough, where a man was approached by a man carrying a weapon believed to be a metal pipe.

He was accosted by the man, who asked him for money and verbally threatened him.

After refusing to hand over money the robbery victim was chased up the street by the man, and then waited on Mexborough High Street where there were several members of the public.

He returned to Hartley Street again a short while later to continue his journey, where he was threatened and chased again by the same man.

Commenting on the incident South Yorkshire police inspector, Richard Collingwood, said: “It’s quite a worrying incident, and we’re currently working to get CCTV images from nearby shops as part of our ongoing investigation.”
