A MAN is being treated for serious head injuries after a crash during a police chase.

The 19-year-old was a passenger in a car being pursued through Doncaster by South Yorkshire Police yesterday afternoon.

Police were chasing the car - a stolen red Peugeot 306 - following a theft from a shop in Thorne.

It collided with a JCB tractor travelling in the opposite direction on Station Road, Stainforth.

The passenger of the car was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries.

The driver, another 19-year-old local man, was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary with a suspected fractured wrist, cuts and bruises.

He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking.

Three police officers involved in the pursuit sustained slight neck and back injuries. They were taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary but not detained.

Witnesses should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident 408 of Monday, May 21.
