A man has appeared in court in connection with the death of a city teenager.

Jasmyn Chan, aged 14, from Frecheville, was killed while crossing Normanton Hill in Intake on May 9.

Naseeb Ellahi, of Ash Road, Birmingham appeared at Sheffield Magistrates Court today.

Jasmyn’s mum Paula McCullie and father Peter Chan were in court for the hearing, along with other members of the family.

Ellahi, aged 32, formerly of St Ronan’s Road, Nether Edge, Sheffield, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

He is also charged with causing death by driving while uninsured, causing death by driving while unlicensed, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to report an accident.

Ellahi was released on bail on the condition that he lives at the address in Birmingham.

He will next appear at Sheffield Crown Court on October 21.
