A man is fighting for life following an ‘incident’ in Barnsley, police have revealed.
The 33-year-old suffered life threatening injuries and is in a critical condition in hospital.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said an investigation is under way to try to establish how the man sustained his injuries.
Officers have cordoned off Rotherham Road, from the junction with Pontefract Road to the Hope public house, while officers examine the area.
Forensic experts in white suits were at the scene this morning.
An orange transit van is inside the cordon, with passers-by claiming it appears to have been involved in a collision.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police are investigating an incident that is believed to have occurred at around 10.30pm last night on Rotherham Road in Barnsley.
“A 33-year-old man sustained life threatening injuries and is currently in hospital in a critical condition.
“Officers are making enquiries this morning to ascertain the circumstances of the incident.
“Rotherham Road, from the junction of Pontefract Road and up past the Hope public house, will remain closed this morning while the scene is investigated.
“Anyone who believes they may information or may have witnessed anything in the area is asked to call the police.”
