Detectives have today arrested a man over a murder in Barnsley over the weekend.
The 48-year-old was arrested this morning over the death of John Gogarty, 65, who was found with multiple stab wounds in his home on Marsh Street, Wombwell, on Friday afternoon.
Detectives yesterday issued an appeal for any with information on Mr Gogarty’s movements in the week before his death in a bid to piece together his final hours.
They said Mr Gogarty was a ‘security conscious’ man who they believe would have known his killer to allow them into his home.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police investigating the death of John Gogarty have today arrested a man on suspicion of murder.
“A 48–year-old Barnsley man was arrested this morning and remains in custody where he is being questioned by police.
“Officers were called to a house in Marsh Street, Wombwell, at around 4pm on Friday, where they found the body of 65-year-old Mr Gogarty.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
