Man appears in court over drive-by shooting in Sheffield

A man has appeared at court today accused of murdering another man in a drive-by shooting in Sheffield.

Asif Yousaf, aged 32, of Violet Bank Road, Nether Edge, is charged with the murder of 22-year-old Jordan Thomas in a gun attack on Sunday, December 21.

Mr Thomas, from Waterthorpe, was the passenger in a silver Ford Mondeo which was shot at as it pulled up at traffic lights at the junction of Derek Dooley Way and The Parkway.

The 27-year-old driver of the Mondeo was also shot, but survived the attack.

Yousaf, who was dressed in a navy short-sleeved T-shirt and grey tracksuit bottoms when he appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court this morning, is charged with murder and attempted murder.

He spoke only to confirm his name, age and address.

No pleas to the charges were entered.

He is due at Sheffield Crown Court on January 12 for a preliminary hearing but may appear earlier to apply for bail.
