A police investigation has been launched after a 21-year-old man was allegedly sexually assaulted as he walked down a busy Sheffield road.

The attack took place at around 6.30pm on Tuesday, as the man walked in the Middlewood Road area of Hillsborough in the direction of the city centre.

His attacker, who is described as being black, aged 30-40, about 5ft 10ins- 6ft tall, and of slim build, is believed to have carried out the assault after asking the victim for money and engaging him in conversation.

He was wearing dark blue jeans and a grey/brown coloured coat with the hood up.

The sex attack occurred just a day after an 18-year-old woman was reportedly propositioned by a man as she walked down Middlewood Road at around 9.30pm on Monday evening.

The man is described as wearing a grey jacket and a black cap.

Following the two incidents, police say they have increased patrols in the area.

Sergeant John Kirkham of the area Local Policing Team said: “I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have seen either of the men described to contact police.

“I would also like to reassure local residents that we have increased patrols in the area following these two incidents and have been reviewing CCTV footage of the area.”

Anyone who has information about these incidents is asked to call 101 and quote either incident 1131 of 23 February or 1161 of 22 February.

Alternatively, information can be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
